Sounds exactly like the experience with my AMT 10mm Javelina. Bought brand new around 1980 for $200 hard earned dollars. Traveled 70 miles to the range and it would not put two consecutive rounds down range without a jam. Brought my brand new 1911 parts kit home and being the stubborn old Missouri pig farmer that I am got to work. Same as you, I learned everything I know about making a 1911 run on that gun. Got it to 90% functional but could get it no farther. Finally bought one of them "new" Lee factory crimp dies in 10mm, seems it had a rather tight chamber. Voila 100% function and still the most accurate 1911 I own. Even won a second place Louisiana state championship USPSA match with it in 82.
