Hardballer.

After the S&W stainless line hit the stores, we Cooperites began howling for a stainless 1911. Nobody expected Colt to do squat, and they didn't. Randall and Detonics popped up, but they were too pricey for working folks. Then AMT hit with the Hardballer, and we were saved. I spent the rent to glom one of the first ones shipped. It wouldn't feed hardball, and felt like it was full of sand. So I went to work on it. I polished every surface that rubbed another surface, and it started feeding halfassed, and only hardball. So began a project. I would do another trick in the bag, and go shoot it, and it would get better, then another trick, and more improvement. One day I hit the magic combo of tricks, and it never jammed another round for the many years I owned it. It fed everything, and was extremely accurate, once I replaced the silly roll pin in the rear sight with a solid pin.

It was my go-to peestol for many years until I got too big for my britches, and sold it for peanuts to buy some fancy label. Most of what I learned about 1911 tinkering came from that gun that wouldn't feed anything out of the box.
