Testing Bullet Hardness

I was wondering how the plated .45 ACP bullets compare to the jacketed bullets. So I took a couple factory jacketed bullets and a couple of the plated bullets and put them nose to nose in my vise, then slowly closed it.

The harder bullet will always show up. Before a got a lead hardness tester I tested my cast bullets this way.

Three Deer Hunters

Three men went deer hunting, and as they crossed the field, a huge buck jumped up in their path. All three men raised their rifles and fired at the same time. The buck dropped, and as they walked over to examine their prize, they realized they had a problem. Only one shot had hit the deer! Which one of them had actually shot the deer?

As they tried to figure it out, a game warden came along to check their hunting licenses. After hearing their dilemma, he offered to settle the matter. He carefully examined the deer and then said, “One of you guys is a preacher, right?” Sure enough, one of them was.

“Well, preacher,” the game warden said, “your shot is the one that got the buck.”

The other two men were amazed. “How did you know one of us was a preacher? And how did you know that the preacher’s shot was the one that hit the deer?”

“Simple,” the game warden replied. “It went in one ear and out the other.”

Traveling Mercies

“It's funny: I always imagined when I was a kid that grownups had some kind of inner toolbox full of shiny tools: the saw of discernment, the hammer of wisdom, the sandpaper of patience. But then when I grew up I found that life handed you these rusty bent old tools - friendships, prayer, conscience, honesty - and said 'do the best you can with these, they will have to do'. And mostly, against all odds, they do.”

What a week... (reply)

What a week. Parts of the city resemble a war zone. You can't go from point A to point B without visiting most of the rest of the alphabet, or so it seems at times. The death count so far is surprisingly low considering the damage to buildings and such. After distributing some basic groceries to families in need over a couple of days we were able to turn our attention to the damage done to the church building when a neighboring building dropped part of its poorly built third floor on us. Thankfully with the help of several members and friends we were able to get the debris removed and yesterday we were able to get new tiles installed on the roof. We had to remove computer/sound equipment/etc due to possible looting on Tuesday. Not sure when we'll be able to get that set back up. Today we gathered with folks who live reasonably close for a time of fellowship and encouragement. We used my cell phone to do a "Facebook Live" for folks living further away. What a joy to see each other and to have a chance to interact in person, hear each person's story if they wanted to share it and to ask for information on needs still needing to be met.

Thank you all for your prayers on our behalf and to those who have given to help meet needs here. The attached photo is of one of the last batches of groceries we delivered, motorcycle being the only transportation we had available. One one of the last trips was outside of town to a family that had their house severely damaged. Sheri found herself in a place she didn´t feel technically capable of maneuvering, but I'd gone on around the bend. She didn't show up and I as afraid she'd gone down. Thankfully she had the good sense to stop and wait for me to return. I was able to park my bike and take her's down to a flat spot and she was OK from there. It was a relief to find a better road back out of the area.

My head's still spinning... (reply)

It's been a wild week and it's only Wednesday. Yesterday we got back into town to pick up my wife's purse and backpack which according to emergency evacuation protocol she'd left behind in her locker at work. Today we got back to town to pick up her motorcycle that's been at the parking lot since the quake. Then I tried to go meet up with the other members of the ministerial alliance board to get more info on what's going on there. "I couldn't get there from here." I had to try several alternate routes before I managed to reach the meetup place. Not finding anything needing my personal attention there I rode back over to our own meeting place to more thoroughly assess the damage there. Sheri came back to meet me there and we walked around the immediate barrio to get a feel for what's going on there. We're in need of some roofing tiles (corrugated cement fiber is the local flavor of choice), a couple of lighting fixtures (8 foot fluorescents got smashed), some tables for the children's room and miscellaneous other items under the rubble. My original intent was to get started today, but after a second look it's not a one man job. We'll see who can come and give a hand and when.

The car's in good hands, it just takes time to trace each sensor and make sure it's connected to the right ECU terminal. I've no idea how long it will take as I've no idea how much the electrical engineer working on it was affected by the quake. So patience being part of the fruit of the spirit I'm trying to be fruity.

We have Venmo, Zelle and PayPal, and the good old PO Box still works, too.

Make a note "For earthquake relief" or whatever and David Schepper, our forwarding agent, will let me know when it arrives. Anyone wanting the Venmo or Zelle info, contact me directly (AmBraCol AT gmail works a treat) and I'll get that to you.

We've got families sharing apartments with others and doing their best to get folks fed. So funds for such efforts are also greatly appreciated. My wife tells me we have the offer of the use of a vehicle so once I find out where we can purchase necessaries (many of our regular stores are closed due to damage) I'll be able to start on that little chore.

OK. I don't know if this is coherent or not, still processing a lot of info. The lights just went out again so I'll save this to send later.

please post a method of financially helping you personally to get your automobile operational and professionally with repairs to the church building and ministry resources.

Many years.....even decades ago we had the address clipped from a s.a.c.m. newsletter to a joplin box # under the name of keppler or schleppler or the like that we mailed money orders to. That address was stuck to the 'fridge with magnets but has long since been lost. Since then I know we have contributed but disremember just how. I know I have a paypal address that I have sent to.

Since the previous venezuelan terromoto we have sent to samaritan's purse wiilingly & joyfully but mister graham's reported $985,000.00 salary is always lurking in memory. That organization (and the red cross) already has links for the colombian quake but I'm am thinking there are some here who would like to contribute directly if you could advise.

There's a whole lot of shaking going on...

Yesterday, August 10, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit Colombia. It lasted close to 2 minutes, the longest and hardest quake we've experienced since moving here 30 years ago. Thankfully Sheri and I are doing well, no great damage to the house, the church building had serious damage to the roof due to falling debris from the house behind us. I've not heard yet if our car is OK or not as it's in the shop having the ECU computer that was stolen replaced and I've no idea of the building where it is was damaged or not. Parts of this city look like a war zone. Prayers for us as we seek ways to help in the recovery are greatly appreciated.

If any of you are interested in receiving our mission updates/prayer requests, we just started a new system last month. https://sacm1987.substack.com/ is where you can join if interested. There is NO paid subscription, that'd be asinine, but Substack insists on offering such a thing. Just ignore that part of the sign up process. We appreciate all who take time to pray with/for us as we serve the population here in Coffee Country.
