The XS and Skinner mount into those rear holes on top of the receiver for a scope base. Williams has a 5 D or FP that uses those holes as well.

My AE trapper 45 colt currently has XS sights, and my home made 30-30 trapper is wearing a steel Redfield. It is really too big for the rifle and am looking to replace it with something smaller down the road. The XS really isn't my favorite sight I have it on a few rifles and don't do my best work with them. I think it is more a function of the white line front than anything else.

Personally I like a serrated black front post with a mid size apreature. It is the best of both worlds for me. skinner makes a nice front sight that resembles a Clements when looking at it,
