My age is showing...
+1 on the sights - I have to have some light or either side of the front blade. I've had astigmatism all my life, and iron sights always have fuzzy stuff growing on them. I discovered the cure years ago when I bought a well-used Colt Detective Special that shot 'way to the left. I started working on the rear notch with a set of needle files, and by the time I got it shooting to the sights the rear notch was at least half again as wide as it started out. I discovered that I could actually center the front sight in the big notch just like a fellow is supposed to do when he shoots. I do that to most all of my pistolas now, even the ones with adjustable sights.
