browning made a lot of the 53s, and the 45/70s
with VERY short throats....my 1886 and a buddy's 1886 were ridiculous that way........i got a throating reamer another friend carefully lengthened them until they handled standard rounds properly
this was a very common problem on the 80s and 90s brownings
it is an easy job , done by hand , doesn't need a lathe...
