If you're going to try cutting CD case plastic, Consider heating it up until it's pliable, then cutting it with a heavy pair of scissors. Alternatively, look in the Yellow Pages for people who deal in plexiglas or similar plastics like Lexan. Either should be available in thin pieces, and the shop should be able to cut it to size for you. I'd look for something that has some abrasion resistance.
