As far as the first shot thing, I know that some semi autos, can’t recall if it’s the FAL or M-14 or just in general, the first shot from a mag can hit different than he rest of the mag. Something about how they are chambered manually compared to the automatic function of the rifle. I don’t recall it being an issue with AR’s specifically. How are you chambering the first round? Closed bolt and using the charging handle? Open bolt using the charging handle, gently? Open bolt and dropping it with the release? That might make a difference on how it’s chambered and powder position if that is causing issues.
