I always wondered "why 9mm", think the answer was that people bought them in countries where .45ACP wasn't allowed.
For plinking of course it would be fine and easier to shoot than .45, and would have higher capacity. I still think if you want a 9mm auto you should get something like a Glock 19 or M&P9 but if a person wants a 9mm 1911 then they should get one.
Personally I have been real close to a 9mm 1911- I've been wanting a Kimber in 10mm. But I'd also like to try a Springfield in 460 Rowland.
