I've had many 870's and 500's and have had good luck with both. Honestly I prefer the 870, but for no good reason. The Marines have been using various Mossbergs of or years and they are notorious for braking stuff like anvils, hammers, rocks, etc... I just picked up a scraped up Mossbergs 500 with a fully rifled, ported slug barrel and a 30" full choke smooth bore for $150. You can probably guess what'll happen to that long tom tube!

Are you asking for yourself down there or someone up here? If for you, what's available to you down there? Up heretic here are lots of deals on older Savages, Stevens, etc. fort he most bang for your buck, go with a 500 or 870" then you can get a spare barrel or two and use it for many purposes.
