In patona city.....

more precisely, the real town that I use "patona city" as a fictional substitute we had a gendarme named edgar wallace just like the famous british novelist. patrolman Wallace was a big fan of the infamous buford pusser who was all in the news at the time. He pulls over an Ohio tag and asks the driver where he is from and the reply is "canton". Mister Wallace takes much umbrage thinking that the driver thinks that he (wallace) is illiterate. It almost got ugly but the chief happened by and sorted it all out without Wallace greatly injuring the tourist.

They got Edgar elected as constable with him actually serving as dog catcher so as to enroll him in the supernumerary retirement scheme like judges & politicians which only needed four years for vested tenure where as the state civil servant pension required a full ten years and 59 and a half years of age to be vested. No, not quite fair to everybody else but they knew it was just a matter of time before he hurt some innocent citizen. Edgar was just a point or two brighter than john steinbeck's "of mice and men" character and just as dangerous.
