Once upon a time......

In Ray's alternate universe where the sky is green and the grass is blue.....

We once had a Cimarron .41 colt. It was not marked that I could ken as to manufacturer unless the stamping was under the ejector rod housing. Assuming one of the two normal guappo suspects (p. or u.).

I could not find any brass so I used the old substitute .38 S&W (not special). With the cylinder off of the gun I loaded round balls from the front with a thwack of a mallet. The .38 S&W brass was loaded as blanks with normal charges and cardboard wads. .36 percussion balls were too small. .400" barely left a seating ring and .410"s did fine but were very scarce (track of the wolf). Come to think of it, .400"s aren't common either. Lube was a smear vasoline, cup grease and/or a & d ointment left over from the kid's old diaper bags which left a cloud of diesel fumes to inhale when the wind was wrong. 5 shot groups varied from almost respectable to minute of medium pizza box.
