From a rifle you can easily reach 1600+fps
depending on barrel length, with a 250gr Keith. However, based on my experience, that plain base bullet is not going to be happy at that velocity unless it is harder than woodpecker lips.
This prompts the question about hunting with a non-expanding bullet. Some states consider hardcast to be the same as FMJ bullets and make no allowance for meplats. No idea how the possum cop would ascertain the hardness of your bullet to see if it is expanding or non-expanding. YMMV.
But it will surely make two holes in a deer.
Might be better to back the Keith down to handgun velocities for a more harmonious outcome.
