My .308's are a 22" And 16" FAL and now two 20" bolt guns. My max range I can shoot regularly is 350 yards so a 24" or whatever longer barrel seems wasted...
One of the bolt guns, a recently picked up Savage Hog Hunter is outfitted with a 2-7 Vortex scope and even with my bad eyes had little trouble ringing steel at 350! I'm wavering back and forth between leaving it light or putting a Boyd's Tacticool stock on it and fitting it with a detachable mag.
I went with the 8.5" on my .300 SBR also. I do have a 16" that I was wanting to play with wringing out accuracy but haven't really played with very much yet!
