Ruger American 45 and 9mm

After the local Silhouette match this morning I stopped by the local Cabela's to pick up an order. While I was there I noticed they had the Ruger American in 45 and 9mm. Waited patiently, almost bit my tongue in two, but kept quiet listing to the counter talk. I looked at the 45 and liked the feel of the it in my hand. But the trigger was knotchy or locked up. Tried the 9mm and it was the same. It seems that any lateral load on the trigger safety locked the trigger. I realize these are display models and have seen who knows what but it still seems like a major issue to me. Anyone else handled one of these haven't read anything but good things about them.
