.......you made me go and do some homework to discover that little tidbit, however.

Turns out a Series 80 hammer has a shelf, rather than a half-cock notch. So the 80 hammer can drop if it is resting on the shelf and the trigger is pulled.

Having discovered that, I also discovered that an 80 Series does not need that peculiar hammer for the firing pin safety system to work, it will function just as well with a 70 style hammer with the half-cock notch, and also that you can fit a 70 hammer to the existing sear. In truth, having discovered this factoid, I think I would prefer the earlier hammer!

So! Anyone got a Colt Commander hammer, preferably a Series 70? ;-) Oh, and thank you FOG for making me do my due diligence!
