Soitenly. For "old" sci-fi, there are guys like Jules Verne
and Edgar Rice Borroughs. Interesting prose and worldview.
Then there's the "modern" guys like Boge mentioned. Don't bypass Larry Niven's Ringworld. Most excellent. Phillip Jose Farmer's Riverworld is a must also.
For "newer" try pretty much anything by Orson Scott Card (Ender's Game is magnificent) and Vernor Vinge. Particularly like Vinge's take on the upcoming Technological Singularity in Peace War, Marooned in Realtime. "Zones of Thought" are good also.
