Looking for a older STEEL peep sight for a 1965 Marlin 336

I have a wonderful old Marlin 336 in .35 Remington that I would like to upgrade some and shoot deer with this coming season.

Looking for a real deal old steel peep....do not know if it is Lyman, Williams etc...

New sights are just fine but aluminum....

Check out skinners sights. I have one on my Marlin 30-30. If you are have never seen them they are all steel and mount on top of the receiver.

Actually I already have a XS Ghost ring peep that will fit but prefer the "old" style micrometer adjust steel side mount...

Byron, I have a 336 RC in 35 Remington and it has a Lyman all steel sight on it, though I don't remember which model it is. The little plate with the micrometer markings on it got lost somewhere before I bought it, but the sight is still completely functional. The sight picture is great and it all goes together very nicely. I wouldn't want the aluminum body sight there either in place of what I have now.

Not sure how long ago I bought a Lyman for my Marlin .35 SC, probably 8 years or so, but it was (is) all steel.

got a steel sight 8 years ago it was new-old stock, i.e. made years earlier. I've never had any problems with the Williams aluminum sights (and they've always been thus made) but the Lyman aluminum has stripped threads twice now, both in the slide plate screw hole. I epoxied them in place, screw and all. The current Lyman # would be 66LA but previous to this there were a couple of different numbers I can't remember off-hand this morning. Redfield also made an excellent steel sight. Sad to say but a good place to find them, but maybe not PAY for them due to the high prices they get, is ebay.

Contact Ken Bean, York, PA, phone 717-755-9070. He's a dealer specializing in sights who does the gun show circuit and will almost certainly have one. I got an older Lyman for a Winchester Model 94 from him last year.

There's also a guy named Gary Fellers (in TX, if I recall correctly) who specializes in such sights, but I don't have his contact information. He might have a web site if you Google him.

Williams have always been made from aluminum, so forget them if you want steel.

Lyman and Redfield both made steel sights for your Marlin

Lyman made the 66 LA which is click adjustable for windage and elevation.

Redfield made the 70 OM and 80 OM which are click ajustable for windage and elevation

Redfield made the 102 OM which is adjustable for windage and elevation by loosening and tightening screws.

Of the three the 102 OM is cheaper when it can be found. Once adjusted and locked down, it is bull strong and won't move. IMHO it is the best hunting receiver sights made. I have three of them on my Marlin leverguns.

The letter codes for model on Redfield sights are stamped on the back of the base. Sometimes you have to remove the elevation staff to see it.
