This is most interesting.
The .327 cartridge is just too much for me but the 100 gr. federal load in carbine lengths is quite impressive if the videos of jug tests are to be believed. Firing that round into the ends of stove wood splits between the utility room and tractor shed made me instantly regret trying that bullet catching "test".
No, the .32 is meant to be easy on the ears. That prospective load you quote would be better for me at 700 than at 1000 fps. The use of h & r level charges in the newer magnum seems wise. Putting the loading info. from the lyman folk of the browning auto, s&w, long, h&r then fed. magnum side by side, there is a h u g e ! jump between the latter examples.
In the early days of the internet there was the loose and informal cult of like-minded .32 associates and the full-length magnum was just then an improbable dream.
