To add to the confusion...

The 45-90 Winchester was an 'express' cartridge loaded with relatively light and short 300gr bullets for their lever action. It also had a slow twist. Intended for hunting. Case length was 2.4"

The single shot version as chambered in the Sharps 1874 also used the same 2.4" case but factory loads used a heavy 500gr+ paper patched bullet over 100grs of BP. The rifles had a faster twist for the longer bullets. Mostly used as a target round replacing the earlier 45-2.6 (45-100).
