370-grain .40-cal paper-patched Sharps bullets

Hi all.

Last week at an estate sale I picked up a little box (who knows how old?) of 25 bullets, hollow-based and paper-patched, for .40-caliber Sharps cartridges. The box was somewhat battered but the label was clear. Inside, the lead wasn't corroded, and all 25 bullets were present. These were the product of the Union Metallic Cartridge Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut.

I have absolutely zero need for these, don't own a Sharps cartridge rifle (or any rifle in .40 caliber), and I don't know if I would load and shoot these if I could... but the box of bullets was just too cool to leave it on the table.

At the same time, my life is full of things that were "too cool to pass up," so I'm letting them go.

Does anyone want all of them for a buck a bullet plus postage?

You will likely get some useful information out of them whereas they would just sit on my shelf. And, much like Aaron, there's too much of that already.

John saved me from myself (and other bad influences)

Knowing me, if I had hung onto those bullets long enough, sooner or later I'd be shopping over on the Pedersoli website, or (worse) shopping Shiloh and C. Sharps!

HAHA!

You and me both Buddy!

I wasn't able to save me from me, tho.

Already lost traveling down the Shiloh road and stumbled down a side road that passed through a town called 'British Double Rifle'.

Learning a lot about black powder cartridges and paper patched bullets - loading and hunting with same is addictive...

Sent an email earlier today with contact info.

Like Hoot said, hopefully I can glean some insights from these.

Thanks!

A British-made vintage rifle... even a single-shot... for black powder cartridges would certainly float my boat, and almost certainly to an unhealthy degree.

Absolutely! Here's a sad story...

Found an Alex Henry single shot, left side hammer bent for a right hand shooter, on an auction site in CA which was handling an estate sale. Great shape, even listed by serial # in the A. Henry books. Knowing this would likely go for about $6K, but wondering if a lack of exposure in regular channels would keep the price down a bit, I put in a $5k bid days before the auction and waited. Bids were low and slow... then it was sold to a different high bidder at $3900.

What?

They never responded to my email or phone call requesting an explanation.

Not meant to be, ah reckon.
