Favorite Gun of Hopalong Cassidy's Creator

Clarence E. Mulford was the author of the Hopalong Cassidy books the TV show was based on. In the 1950's he wrote about his favorite gun. A Colt Single Action .44 Russian and Special, it had been modified with a barrel rib, special sights and a cylinder made of what he termed "strong steel" for the heavy loads he was shooting. He wrote that they "really packed a wallop."

I read that he was part of the .44 Associates.

The rear sight is a "folding leaf" sight with 2 blades. The shorter blade for normal distances and the longer blade for long-range work.

Most interesting. As for mulford's books, reading the phonetic dialect spelling in the dialogue gets tiresome. I get it that most of the characters have a tobacco quid impeded texican drawl but to read it spelt-out over & over is annoying !

I will confess I have never been a Hopalong Cassidy fan ...

either the books nor the TV show.

Preferred the Lone Ranger.

Though I like Mulford's custom Colt SAA .44!
