Alaskan Adventure, well sort'a
I worked the Alaskan pipeline during 1975-1976. About 10 weeks during 1975 starting around mid September until mid November. My first hitch starting just past the Yukon for a few weeks at one work camp, then on up the road a bit to camp Old Man. A few more weeks and wrapped up that hitch in Coldfoot camp, just inside the artic circle. Got caught up in a layoff for the winter and went back in the spring of 1976 for a 14 week straight hitch, 90% of which I was at Coldfoot Camp. The Brooks Range is gorgeous. Coldfoot sat along a fork in the Koyukuk River, beautiful. And the northern lights there have to be seen to believe.
I do wish it had been a hunting trip like I'd read about from my younger days. None the less, I was blessed to have gotten to spend the time there.
