Went to the San Marcos Gun Show this morning.

Spent a couple hours wandering the aisles with my 2 grandsons. It was their first ever Gun Show. A little over 600 tables. Some with shirts and/or knives but more than 90% of the tables were firearms.

Plastic guns were about 20 to 1 of steel and wood guns. Autoloading handguns out numbered revolvers maybe 50 to 1. Many tables looked exactly like the table on the next isle with row after row after row of striker-fired plastic guns.

Lots of ammo for sale as well as primers. Most tables had primers around $150 or $160 a thousand. I found one table selling primers for $70 to $75 a thousand. I bought the last Large Pistol brick that he had.

Prices on most guns seemed high, though there were some decently priced guns such as the Rock Island 1911's ... Caniks ... and Taurus. Typical was a table with Ruger Wranglers and Heritage .22 single actions. $350 ... but he said if I was interested he would lower to $300 cash. I thanked him and walked away. Wasn't looking for a .22 anyhow but his prices were ridiculous.

This is the first gun show I have been to in about 20 years and while it wasn't a disappointment it wasn't that much fun.

I went to a gunshow in Spring 2020, early in the Pandemic era. It cost me 12 or 15 dollars to get in, no one had anything I wanted, and the crowd seemed surly.

Haven't been back to one since.

We have a bigger show here in Indy a few times a year. They call it the 1500, so I’m assuming that’s how many tables they have. Mostly new plastic guns. Some older, overpriced stuff mixed in with the beef jerky and cinnamon almond guys. I hit it maybe once every four or five years. I always suggest it to someone who’s looking for a new polymer pistol because odds are good they can handle a lot of variants and find a dece deal

There is a small local show that is only about 15 minutes away from me. I can walk the whole show in less than an hour and keep track of anything I might want to go back and look at. It’s getting invaded by dealers with tables of new crap, but there always a lot of tables with older oddball stuff. I’ve picked up odd new services, 50-70 trapdoors, and a
Few neat 22’s there in the past few years. I don’t hit it every time it’s in town but I try to go at least a couple times a year. I often walk out with nothing but a $5 ink stamp on my hand but I generally see some neat stuff and talk to some good old dudes.

I made a flying run to Sedalia MO once to buy a Model 25 Winchester. The shotgun was located for me by Cas, who lived on Long Island NY. Sometimes the world is amazingly flat.

The seller mentioned in passing that there was a little gunshow in Stover MO, and the last one he went to was small but good. It was not far out of my way on the return.

The door was $5, there were about 25 tables, and they all were good. Bought a fair few gun parts, some all brass new 12G cases, several uncommon nostalgic knives, .22WRF new ammo, a dozen or so items in total. The guy I was with, ditto.

AND the ladies from the local Catholic parish were selling food, genuinely homemade, and the sort of stuff only rural older German descent ladies could ever make. My hands and my belly were both full.

A 25 or less table show may be the best one I ever saw.

There are two shows near me that generally have enough older stuff to keep my interest. They have gone up to $10 to get in the door, but It is good for all weekend and parking is free. There are usually a couple of guys selling reloading stuff although currently prices are more than I am willing to pay. They are normally a good way to kill a Saturday morning .
