Also loaded some with 2Fg Black powder. No chance to shoot any yet... broken mainspring and broken hand spring. Parts hopefully coming this next week.

It's a fun little cartridge.

I got a pile of .361 bullets from someone here....maybe AaronB? I'm down to only a couple pistols but I think they need to get out and play some more soon. I'll be interested to hear how the black powder goes. I loaded some up years ago for an old "Owl's Head". It worked just fine but, as I didn't have BP lube on the bullets, fouling was pretty tough.

Yeah ... lube can make a difference. I use SPG ...

Udderly Smooth hand cream directly before loading and shooting. It sure worked for that! I picked up some but haven't tried it on anything yet.

It is a fun cartridge.

Mine is a Webley MKIV and I load appropriately with a 200 gr. bullet but shoot every odd round that I get from the shop for the brass. I've shot some BP loads and they are at once fun and disappointing. It makes one wonder how people of that time found it in themselves to put faith in it.

century, and poor sanitation, almost any bullet wound was potentially fatal. Nobody wanted to get shot, even with a popgun.

It may have been heresy, but I know I read years ago that old west gunfighters were more afraid of the 41 rimfire derringers than they were of ‘real’ pistol calibers because a 44/40 or 45 colt would usually pass on through while the stubby little 41 would lodge in the body, along with dragging in all kinds of dirt etc from clothes and not so clean skin. Like Jim said, I don’t want to get shot, but I think I’d rather bleed out pretty quickly than to die of an infection over the course of days or weeks!

Making Some .38 S&W's

I've got two .38 S&Ws that I shoot (couple more that I don't) and both do well with .358 diameter 155 grain hard-cast SWCs. Loaded over 2.3 grains of Unique they do about 725 FPS out of my little 2" Terrier. Shoot just a tad high to the sights but not enough to matter. Have not chronoed them from the five inch barrel of the old Brit Enfield - suspect about 800 fps. Accurate in both guns. No planet-wrecker, but I sure wouldn't jump out in front of one just to see what happens.
