Hearing protection, Electronic... it is the best way to go
The very best I have used are by OTTO. 400 bucks... They are outstanding but small, and easy to loose...dang it! I am currently using Walkers Shooting Hunting Razor XV 3.0 Behind The Neck Headset Hearing Protection Enhancer with/Without Bluetooth at 63 bucks a set collar type blue tooth so I can listen for my phone and to my music while operating lawn mowers or tractor and in my older trucks... AND they work great on the range and in the Gunsite Fun House and play house. I like to wear a full brim hat on the range. these allow that. I have Walkers and Howard Leight electronic muffs when bigger rifle shooting is a all day thing. I have used Howard Leights (HL)for over a decade now, very good ear pro for the money. They turn off after a 20 minutes or so of no use. AA batteries last forever. Great easy to use volume control. I cut off some cotton socks to insulate my ears a bit better in the heat and cold of Arizona at 5,000 feet.
