Building a .38 Super

I bought a 9mm SDS imported TISAS 1911A1 to convert to .38 Super. These pistols are inexpensive, more so at wholesale, and good I think. I haven't had any problems with the .45 ACP and I've shot it quite a bit. CDNN has/had Sig/Sauer ramped .38 Super 1911 barrels for a little over $40.00. Haven't had the time to check the fit of the barrel but as a 9mm the pistol pretty much shoots to the sights at 50 yards.

I've never had a .38 Super of my own. Hoarding and knowing a circle of hoarders means that ammo will not be a problem...

Building a .38 Super

Hobie, you are doomed. .38 Supers are addictive, especially if you get one that is as accurate as it can be when everything is fitted right. I got a 2011 Colt Series 80 off GB that was a piece of crap. I sent it back to Colt and the guy who was running the Custom Shop at the time made it into a flippin' magic wand. I'm not as good a shot as that thing makes me look like.

Of course, I had to have some more Supers after that, and I'll bet you will too before the addiction runs it's course (if it ever does).

Good luck with your project!

Is the frame Wilson/Nowlin cut?

I was going to buy one of those for my RIA 9mm but they use a Para/Clarke style frame cut.

Sounds like a fun project...

a friend has a pre-war Commercial Colt 38 Super in excellent condition. I've cogitated on the cartridge for years now, but never got that round tuit to search out components, much less the appropriate pistol. Looking forward to any future updates on your project, for sure.
