GONE TO TEXAS

by Catoosa, Monday, June 11, 2012, 20:15 (4495 days ago)

Heading out to Texas Wednesday morning IF we can find a rental vehicle that suits our needs. Reserved a fullsize SUV at Hertz SIX WEEKS ago, to pick up tomorrow. This afternoon they called to say they didn't have what we wanted and offered to substitute a Nissan Pathfinder. OK, but I wanted to check it out. When we got there what the guy had was a dinkya-- little Xterra - he did not even know the difference, or figured I wouldn't. Needless to say I will not be renting ANYTHING from Hertz again.

May wind up having to drive my Trailblazer. Hate to put that many miles on it, which was the reason for going with a rental in the first place, but at least it's comfortable to drive.

we've had similar luck with National and Hertz

They'll reserve you anything you want, they just won't have it when you get there.

Drive safe compadre.

I have had similar problems with Enterprise rentals. Asked for certain size well in advance when I went to get it they had no vehicles what so ever. Finally a few pulled in. It seems they were all driven by the Enterprise workers themselves. I asked for a larger vehicle, they said you have to reserve one of the luxury cars to get a larger one. Really like to to pull the switcheroos on you. Never again. Good Luck Hope you have better success.

Had my Explorer hit awhile back and the other guy's insurance had Enterprise give me a loaner while my body work was done. I called and asked what vehicle I would get and they said an Explorer or a Trail Blazer. When I went to pick it up they gave me a KIA. Since my Explorer was already in the shop I drove it home. When I got home the wife went off on them and that afternoon they drove out an Explorer to trade off for the KIA. Maybe I should rent out the little woman. She grts results.

I've had good luck with budget, national, dollar, alamo

I used to travel enough that I figured out which of the chains gave reasonable service and which did not. I never had any real problems with any of these, but I was always going on price alone and although none of these were perfect, they were reasonably good for the "lowest bidder".

Wife had good experience with Alamo but a big name, Hertz I

GONE TO TEXAS - UPDATE

Got online last night and checked with the Avis office in Murfreesboro, reserved a "large SUV". Called this morning and they said, "Sure, we got a Ford Explorer, come get it." Cheaper than Hertz and great service - worth the 40 minute drive.

TEXAS OR BUST!

Going through Dallas or Wichita falls?
