22lr or 17 HMR

Thinking about picking up a bolt action rimfire, want to put a scope on it and use it for sniping rabbits and general target shooting. Trying to decide between the 22lr or the 17 HMR. Other than cost, seems the 17 is quite the round. Opinions?
