First check local agency use of digital communications...
Our local PD went digital and now there's no scanner that will pick them up. Good for PD security but not for those of us wanting to be aware. The only current option is to get a radio and program for the used frequencies and turn off the transmit function. Accidentally transmitting could open one to charges of interfering with police/official communications (depending on your state). I bet it would go afoul of some federal law as well.
Barring those considerations, my Realistic unit has served well.
