Beginning in the mid-1940s. After supper I always went to my room to listen to the Lone Ranger. Brace Beamer was the voice of the Ranger. I first saw the Lone Ranger on television in the late 1940s and was terribly disappointed in his outfit. I had one of the Big Little Books from the 1930s and the Lone Ranger wore a checkered flannel shirt and carried a pair of Remington sixguns. Took quite a while for this young boy to get used to the TV image. However both Clayton Moore and John Hart were excellent in the role of the Lone Ranger and Jay Silverheels was perfect as Tonto. Hi Ho Silver!

So asked my Dad, who was born in 33 and grew up in the Detroit area. He does not remember a time before listening to this on the radio. I did get to see many of the TV shows in reruns in the later '60s.
