wasn’t even in TX - 6 customers draw guns on thieves

They did more than I'd be willing to do

I'm not a sworn police officer and I bet none of these guys were either. No one was in danger so their deadly force response was unwarranted. Just because you carry a concealed weapon doesn't mean you should pull it out in this kind of situation.

When the crims tried to run over one of them

all bets were off.

Wasn't too smart to go stand in front of that car, but no criminal has 'rights' to use any kind of force (and a car has been considered a deadly weapon for quite awhile) to aid in or effect an escape while still in the commission of a crime; State laws varying a bit on how that's defined.

Agreed it was a bad idea, but....

They did have the good sense, to confront the robbers outside and did not turn the store into the OK Corral.

agreed - I hadn’t read the details when I shared this

i don’t know how the law reads in Washington but...

In Texas any citizen can enact a citizens arrest if you personally witness a theft, felony or even for legitimate criminal mischeif( which is clearly defined in the penal code). So in effect they could retain them for law enforcement and use whatever level of force is necessary to do so. If they respond with deadly force (trying to run one down with a car) then deadly force is justified in return.

THAT got out of hand quickly...

More training is required. BUT, I understand the frustration. Brazen acts of theft like that have been a common occurrence in the agricultural areas of the INLAND NW. It sounds likes folks got fed up.
