not six gun but rifle
Who else is a fan of the Husqvarna 98 Mausers? I just bought /sold a lot of rifles for someone and this was the last of the bunch in 30/06, I have been a 30/06 snob all my life much preferring the 308 short action. I have a few custom Mausers and the BSA's were my Favorite but this HusQarna feels great in my hands Maybe a Pachmyre Decelarator pad and a bit of a shorter LOP will make it a great gun, I am thinking seriously of using it in PA this year. Who else is a fan lets hear some stories.
Have told the story here a few times...
Killed my first deer with a Mannlicher stocked Husky '06. It belonged to my Grandfather who loaned it to me, saying if I killed a deer with it that morning he would give it to me. A little after 10 a.m. a buck appeared on the next ridge over from my stand, about 200 yards away, and I killed my first deer. A little before 11 a.m. I came back to the fire where he sat asking for help to drag my buck out. They all thought I was kidding at first. As soon as the deer was dragged in, my Grandfather pulled out his Swiss Army knife, unscrewed the buttplate and wrote my name under it right there next to the fire. Still have that rifle, don't plan to ever part with it, and while I have hunted with many other rifles, it has killed more deer in my hands than any other. My Dad jokes every time he sees me with it that I must be getting serious because it produces venison very regularly.

I've handled that rifle, it's like going back to the gunracks of the small neighborhood gunshops my dad took me to in the late 60's early 70's.
It's a sweet handling hunting rifle.
Today's gunracks are filled with plastic, camo and matte coatings or stainless.
Unlike my memories, where every rifle in the rack was deep polished or rust blued. The wood having figure and deep rubbed finishes or shiny high zoot Weatherby's and their like.
The smell, ahh the smell of Hoppe's.

IMHO, bolt-action .30-06 rifles are bad for the gun business.
Most people who have one soon discover that they don't really need anything else.....

few years back. I should have just bought a .30-06 No 1A and been done with it. Already had a .22 LR and a SxS shotgun.

none of the '98 actions. There are also several '98's here which are not Husky's. This was not done on purpose. I do have an 'improved' Mauser action Husky, Model 1651 I think, which is in .358 Norma Mag. I have been pining for a Model 46 ('96 action) in 9.3x57 but haven't scratched that itch yet.

You can run them up pretty good or scale them back to Whelen (or less) ballistics. Kills hogs dead too!
