So close yet so far away, ditto!

I've spent quite a bit of time in Rogue River. The priest at our old parish bought a goodly sized bit of acreage there that I was supposed to develop into pear orchards. The plan was to build a retreat center there as well. But his failing health brought all that to a close.

That would be a wonderful chance to meet you, but it is roughly about 8 hours from here. Not a lot to do thereabouts except fish, which is prime! The town itself is tiny.

You are about a 1/2 hour from Grants Pass (cozy little/big city, lots of things to do and see), and maybe 2 hours from the Oregon Caves (great adventure tour). If you keep going past the Caves you will arrive in Crescent City, on the California coast. That would be a long day trip, or a pleasant overnighter. Smell the brine and eat some seafood.

Another medium long day trip would be to drive up to Crater Lake. Fascinating place, I've only seen it when it is covered in snow.

A few hours south on I5 is Ashland, Oregon. The entire town is given over to theaters where Shakespeare's plays are performed. It is very artsy-fartsy, but in a good way.

Man, I wish I could see you! What is bringing you all the way out here?
