Very nice. Don't see them around that much anymore. Wish Colt would get off its corporate duff and start making SAAs again.

thanks for the information.

It seemed from any for sale today, that about all that was new was a Talo edition The Last Cowboy, a theme which worried me. This one is about 58yrs old. Black box and all. I feel if it were sold, it would be near impossible to replace.

a little more production info.

As far as I know, several year back, they went into full production, and the guns were everywhere, not selling, ads in SGN etc with them discounted to $1200 or so, and still slow movers, so, they cut back only to what was ordered.

Which is about 1000 guns per year, and year or so wait.

It might even be less, but The Last Cowboy edition by Talo in Aug/Sept. says they are being made, but only to meet what seems a very small demand.

Personally, I would rather have mine over new, because it is closer to original. And it seems many feel that way, illustrating that they made and continue to make a huge mistake in not making an accurate copy of the first.

It is almost too late now, anyhow, as the latest generations are not growing up with media celebrating the old west with shows and movies. They will not want one, either, especially at prices it would require, and most of the generation will never be as wealthy as the previous, the middle class being pushed into poverty.

I have my doubts they are making any right now

I know a number of people who have been waiting for orders placed over two years ago. A friend who knows people inside Colt said they are not producing them because of the details of their bankruptcy and it isn't advantageous for them to generate revenue in that part of the company right now. Who knows what is true, but if they were producing to meet demand, there wouldn't be people with unfilled orders from 2014/2015.

you are more current than i, and many thanks.

I had heard the speculation as to not producing any during proceedings, but not from any truly knowledgeable source, and hesitate to mention more than year or three wait.

I also have heard total SAA workforce has been only a couple of people for some time now. We are talking circa 4 guns per day, even at 1000 per year, sorta bad math.

Whatever is going on, we can be sure of one thing...

that to assume we can buy a newly produced Colt SAA any time we want in the future is not guaranteed. Your comment on the small size of the work force who produces the SAAs is a good point. I also think it is telling that the TALO Last Cowboy guns were shipped to TALO unfinished and that TALO had the frames finished in what appears to be a chemical wash, rather than true CCH. I could be wrong, but I suspect the reason they shipped unfinished has to do with a dearth of talented people at Colt who could have finished them.

I really hope Standard Mfg. comes through on their announced plans to produce a quality single action revolver. However, I would like to see them producing them in competition with Colt, not instead of. I want both! :)

As for the case color,

I had heard the name of the firm which had been doing the colors, but cannot recall, and this had been so for some time, however, the forgings are Colt.
