223 Handloads for AR: Varget or H335?
I have a full pound of H335 and I already know it's accurate with the Hornady 60g soft point in both of my AR's. I have cases primed and ready for powder to start working up a load for the Sierra 65g GameKing. Sierra says use the data for the 63 grain Sierra bullet and the Sierra manual shows 50.2 (from memory...may be wrong) as the accuracy load. All the forums seem to point to an almost cult following for Varget in the 223 and the manuals seem to indicate about a 100 fps increase over the other powders...not sure how that would look in a 16 or 18 inch barrel though. I'm more concerned with accuracy than velocity and 335 seems to hold its own in the latter department as well. I'll be using a 16" 5.56 with a carbine gas system and the other rifle is an 18" 223 Wylde with rifle gas system. Any advice or suggestions? I'd prefer to stick with one of these two powders.
