New car....to me

by Otony, Thursday, April 20, 2017, 23:46 (2711 days ago)

I have always been a little sad about the Oldsmobile mark being discontinued. This makes things a little better in my book.

Not a photo of mine, but about a prefect duplicate both in color and condition. Bought it from an estate, 1974 Olds Delta 88. 350ci, 350 Turbo, 80,000 original miles.[image]

Gave $650, ya think I did good?

Cool beans! "good" would rank...

by Hoot @, Diversityville, Liberal-sota, Friday, April 21, 2017, 12:22 (2711 days ago) @ Otony

as one of the top understatements of the year.

We had my grandpa's Delmont 88 from his estate for a while. I'm struggling to recall the year right now but right in there. It was also a 4-door with the 455ci motor. Can you say, "Sleeper"?

Did you hold your sixgun on them??????

I'll drive over there tomorrow and double your money.

That is quite nice.

Fellow offered me $1500 today.....

by Otony, Saturday, April 22, 2017, 19:58 (2709 days ago) @ Andrew

.....and told me he has a friend that would go higher. Says the friend has beucoup '70s car and is always on the lookout for more.

I like the darn thing, but I'm not married to it. Not trying to sell it, at least not just yet. I think I will just have a good time with it this summer and fall.

Heck, some fellow named Glen says he wants to rent the trunk to haul "stuff"?

Otony

But Tony, I'm gonna warn you.....

by Glen, Sunday, April 23, 2017, 13:12 (2709 days ago) @ Otony

...if you start putting bodies in that cavernous trunk, you'll probably lose "that new car smell"....

So, let me get this straight....

by Glen, Saturday, April 22, 2017, 11:18 (2710 days ago) @ Otony

...a cigar-smoking Italian, who owns lotsa guns, is now driving around town in pimp-mobile? (big trunk, lotsa room for the bodies) If you're not careful, people are going to start thinking you work for the Corrleones!;-)

Naw, you got the facts all twisted up.....

by Otony, Saturday, April 22, 2017, 19:50 (2709 days ago) @ Glen

I'm a pipe-smoking Sicilian whose family is from Provincia Messina. The Corleones are from the Western side of the island.

A modicum of guns I assure you, just a modicum, although I will agree with the land yacht having a big (BIG!) trunk.

Gotta get an 8-track recording of "Bad To The Bone" (and a smattering of Sinatra) for the appropriate theme music. All that and replace the one missing hubcap, should propel me to wise guy status

I don't know if it is still there, but at one time there was a hubcap shop in Kennewick. Seems like it was on west Columbia after it curved right and went over some railroad tracks. It was on the left. That was in the early eighties so who knows now.

Wise guy ride

by Catoosa, Monday, April 24, 2017, 09:27 (2708 days ago) @ Otony

Otony, does it have a radio speaker grille on top of the dash?

Makes a dandy place to hide yer piece....... The one I saw many years ago was modified to hold a 4" Colt Trooper .38. A cursory search would easily miss it.

New car....to me

by Murphy @, Sunday, April 23, 2017, 09:10 (2709 days ago) @ Otony

My father owned one (other than color) identical to that one. I always liked that car. My father worked out on the road as a lobbyist for 20+ years and big, comfortable cars were a must. The Delta 88 was one of his few over the years, he tended to like the Buick Electra 225's. Those were some boats and rode like a dream.

If you were near and up for selling it? I'm sure the wife would think I've lost my mind when I came to pick it up. :fryingpan:
