Knife shop update......

Have had limited time lately to work in the shop, the usual suspects family, holidays, work and travel. When I have part of my time has been spent working on new things, blade designs, dealing with cracked blades :-(, experimenting with a different heat treat procedures and designing/building new shop fixtures. Received some new Mill tooling this week to complete a grinding belt splitter I designed.

Took three tries to complete this new design, 5.5" blade, 10.5" OAL, 1095 steel with Desert Ironwood scales.....

The first blade cracked after heat treat, the second one was in final stages of blade polish with a really nice set of Desert Ironwood scales glued to it already and two micro cracks showed up on the edge, third time is the charm?????

Another new design, smaller version of my Gunner's Big Blade, 4.25" blade, 9" OAL, 1095 steel with Desert Ironwood...

Took a month but I finally got it, 5" Damascus blade, 9.75" OAL, 416 layers of five different steels combined to make....

Deciding what type of material to use for scales??? Coin flip between a awesome set of Desert Ironwood scales I won in a auction or dyed curly Maple block I have.

Lastly, I opened a Instagram account.....

https://www.instagram.com/gunnerblades/

I will be using it instead of the Happenings page on web site for updates on the shop.

Thanks for looking,
Gunner
