What scope would you use on a rimfire FA 97?

by Bryan ⌂, Ft Worth, TX, Monday, December 26, 2016, 11:33 (2891 days ago)

I've shot it quite a bit with iron sights and enjoy that of course. I've thought about scoping it for squirrels, etc. Mine is the 7 1/2" 17 HMR model.

I'm looking at using the Lovell mount. What scope would you use?

I have a 4X Leupold on my .22 FA 83 it works for me

shooting silhouettes. You might want a 2X7 for the .17 though.

Thx. NT

Handguns with scopes and I do not play well together.

That said, I ended up with a Leupold M8-2X, Extended Eye Relief, duplex reticle mounted to a Smith 41 which is now excess to my needs. A couple of small ring marks but otherwise nearly perfect. If you are interested, drop me a line.

Thx Hoot. email sent. NT

with a Burris halo sight, nice and easy to do... the Trijicon is a much better optic.

Bryan, I have a FA 97 that wears a Leupold 2X, and a FA 252 (83) that wears a Leupold 4X. If you are going to use it for squirrel hunting, I recommend the 2X, because squirrels move so frequently and fast that it's hard to track them and get back on, with a 4X, On the other hand, if one wants the scope primarily for stationary inanimate targets, or for shooting prairie dogs, I recommend the 4X.
A Bushnell 3200 2-6X might make a suitable compromise. It is not much larger than the Leupold 4X.

I will try the 2x Leupold. Would like to try a BDC. NT

What scope would you use on a rimfire FA 97?

Also, I use a T'SOB on the 97, and a custom mount from Gordon Logan on the 252. You can see photos of those guns with scopes mounted, on the Freedom Arms Eye Candy thread on the www.graybeardoutdoors.com site.

Thx Ken. I'm going to try the Lovell. NT
