Memorial Day

For many it is only a long weekend filled with travel, family reunions, barbeques and fun. Too many do not know or fail to remember that Memorial Day was intended for the remembrance of those who fell in the Civil War; later it was expanded to include both sides of that great conflict, then to include each war, each police action and for many of us, every stupid decision by politicians that cost the lives of AMERICAN heroes. Remember them, remember their dedication and do not let anyone prostitute their sacrifice. Stand firm against those who would diminish the Constitution and Bill of Rights. This nation more than any other typifies the light of truth, of freedom, of the ability to determine ones own course and goals! No nation has ever been more dedicated to the uplifting of the human soul than The United States of America!
At supper tonight my daughter raised a toast to her Mother and Father in Law, WW2 Marines now entombed at The Punch Bowl in Hawaii, the National Memorial Cemetery.
And so I to raise a salute to my Father, a WW2 airman, China/Burma/India theater and an Uncle, a Ranger who scaled those cliffs in France and lived his life in pain following his capture, to my teenage hunting pard, Marine Recon, who fell at Khe Sanh, to my pal Dick, Special Forces Captain whose outpost was over run, to Carl my neighbor who parachuted into Panama and to the young woman friend, a war protestor, who took me to the Wall and stood with me, holding my hand as I cried touching the names of friends who never returned.
For those who have gone before me, https://youtu.be/X_uFq5BYays
God keep you, forever. I will never forget you.
