Do any of y'all have one of the newer 1885's in 38-55?

I'm curious as to what bore diameter they made them up in. Also, in searching on GunBroker I see a lot of Trapper models, but a longer barrel seems scarcer in the modern rifles. Has Winchester or Uberti made the 38-55 in longer versions in recent years?

Paul, I have one of the Traditional Hunters.

The bore on mine slugged .376".

I haven't seen any listed by the usual suspects recently. According to Winchester's website 2016 production is limited to 250 units. 50 in 38-55 and 200 in 45-70.

Cimarron Arms shows the Uberti on their site. Don't know about finding one though.

Thanks! I'm looking...

towards the future. Dreaming is free. :) Someday I hope to own a good, singleshot rifle and the 1885 is my first choice. A few years ago they had their Safari rifle in 375 H&H, but who am I kidding? The trajectory is similar to my beloved '06, but the recoil isn't what my retina needs. The 38-55 seems like a good choice of caliber as it could be handloaded to decent levels. I'm hoping to one day be able to make one more big game hunt, and hope to do so with a singleshot rifle. Time will tell. In the meantime I'm trying to get info together against that time. Thanks for the feedback!

I have one of the Browning Traditional Hunters in 38-55

Same manufacturer as the current Winchesters. Very well made nice rifle. The bore in mine slugs 0.3755. 0.376 cast bullets are sometimes a tight chamber fit when loaded in Winchester brass, but the chamber is long enough to use Starline "long" 38-55 brass, and with the Starline brass, there is no problem with a tight chamber fit. I like the Marbles tang sight that it came with, but at some point I think I will replace it with a medium range Soule sight. Nice rifle and excellent cast bullet cartridge. I also have the same Traditional Hunter rifles in 30-30 and 45-70 to keep it company :-) :-)
