ADT sucks

by Fowler, Wednesday, January 06, 2016, 19:07 (3183 days ago)

Danged buy a new house and they ADT is determined to get me to sign up for their service. Our new land line number has been given to exactly 1 person and somehow they got ahold of it and have called us no less than 30 times! Telling them to not call us, and registering on the no call list has not deterred them so far.

Tonight in the middle of dinner one of their salesmen came to my door! Wow they don't give up, I wouldn't sign up for their service for all of the tea in China! The next time one of them nocks on my door I'll think I'll answer it with a gun in my hand instead of my side under a shirt...

You may not resume your regularly scheduled program but I needed to vent.

Don't know about ADT but some of those sales people can really be a pain, and they never stop on the phone.

If it's not someone whose name we recognize, we don't answer the phone. If someone really wants to talk to us they can leave a message and we will call back.

That's how I handle it plus I block numbers if need be. If I answer the door the first thing asked for is their business license. Also taking their picture & license plate number seems to help.:shifty:

People are all pretty much the same when it comes to being bothered.

We don't answer the phone unless we know who it is. We get very few messages.

Exactly - if it is important they will leave a message

On my cell if it is a number I don't recognize and they don't leave a message I block the number. You can also google the number to see how many complaints there have been.

The sales practices of such orgs was 'boiler room' years ago

by John Meeker @, Maumee Ohio, Thursday, January 07, 2016, 18:51 (3182 days ago) @ Fowler

tried them once upon some decades ago, and after a couple of lucky hits -- was taken out on 'my leads' -- by the Office Manager. When I did not close the sale, he started to 'train me' -- and I said: "They wanted information, I gave it. They said they can't afford it, so why waste my time?" He said, "You've got to MAKE them want to afford it. Make them more afraid, pressure them, anything..until they buy." A couple of those -- and it was a heartfelt Mutual parting.

She'd pass the phone off to one of my boys when they were very young (babbling age - 2-4 years old). Those kids could go on chatting for hours, or at least till the salesperson realized it and hung up. We disconnected our landline permanently at the end of December. Just cell phones now.

Wife signed us up for AARP a few years back.

by ERSisk @, Thursday, January 07, 2016, 22:07 (3182 days ago) @ Fowler

Then she made the mistake a few months ago of donating $20.00 to one of there causes. Now we get 2 or 3 pieces of AARP junk mail a day. Last week we got a record 5 in a single day, selling all sorts of AARP products, plans, benefits and requesting donations. Phone calls are a breeze, answering machine picks up 9 out of 10 leave no message and will stop trying after multiple failures.

That's a real problem with charity donations

by Catoosa, Friday, January 08, 2016, 09:26 (3181 days ago) @ ERSisk

There are several local organizations I would donate to IF it could be done anonymously. But if you send them a check you get on their "list" and then they won't let you alone. Still getting duns from the local PBS affiliate resulting from a small donation I sent them five or more years ago
