Stainless Ruger .44 special Flattop
Been searching picture posting and I don't understand what is going wrong. I'll figure it out.
First impression of the Ruger...Fit and finish very good except stocks. One is off center more than I would like to see but I knew it when I paid for it. Doesn't hurt too bad as I have some nicely figured hickory earmarked for such an occasion.
Slow cocking the hammer is gritty. No over-travel at all at lock up. Action locks tightly. Cylinder gap is better than average, cannot find gauge so cannot say specifically.
Throats are consistent but a little large. A .430 Hornady jacketed XTP drops freely through. Calipers read .433-.434 best I can manage. These same calipers measure the bullet at .430 but an inside hole may not measure as accurately. I don't have any pin gauges.
Trigger pull is nearly 6.5 pounds on the cheap wheeler gauge. Yuk!
Shot fifteen shots today. Twenty five yards off sandbag. Five shot groups. Not too good. Groups three inches or so and very low and left. Probably on me though due to heavy trigger and not use to the smaller grips. Will have to see after some internal cleanup and poor man's trigger job.
