What did you carry on your New Year's morning walk?

We have traditions here that revolve around long walks on the place as a means to celebrate a holiday or important life experience.

This old friend was with us this morning.

El Paso Tanker holster and a S&W 568 loaded with full power three five seven magnum loads.

Realistically this is about all the sidearm anyone needs to do what needs to be done with a sidearm.

The dogs and i covered about 8 miles of thick brush and grasslands. Well I walked about 8, they probably ran 20! I had my Stoeger 3000 Benelli knock off along with a beat up old Hi Power in an equally old Askins Avenger. We saw a few birds but I only got a shot at a couple of them. I downed this one and the rest flew free!

Unless you have to shoot someone who isn't worth the value of your 586 and it gets tossed in an evidence locker. I love those traditional guns so much I just save them for fondling, range time and serious outdoor use and dedicate my Glock 19 and LCR .357 for social work. $400 and I can replace either one in a day. But, I like that pretty Smith and holster setup mucho:)

And I completely agree....

that it's about all the sidearm anyone needs. It used to piss Gabe Swarez off to no end when I posted my daily carry gun was a 4" 629 but I can assure you I could run it twice as well as half his fan boys could their Glock 19s (which I carry now). But it has more to do with trying to be armed at all times, regardless of the weather, conditions, sweat, blood, etc. every now and then my alter ego starts thinking I'd rather have six hot .357's in my 4" GP100 than 16 rounds in my Glock 19 and I'll switch for a time. If I'm ever persuaded to open carry now that it's legal in Texas, I'd probably open carry the GP100. I'm good with it too and it's also easily replaceable.

The same holster.....

.....but it had a Ruger Security Six in it.
