Cylinder throat reaming - 45 Blackhawk - The Frontier Sixshooter Community Message Board

I picked up a used Ruger New Model Blackhawk 1970s vintage. Accuracy has been disappointing. I fear it has tight cylinder throats. Suggestions on who I can get to do it? I looked at buying the reamer tool but for a one time deal $100+ seems a bit much.

Cas' cylindersmith.com was my first thought but though it came up on all of the search engines, none would open, the little blue wheel just kept spinning until the pop-up filter kicked-in.....the website must not be active.......

Cylinderhone.net is in NC and has a good reputation. I haven't had them work on Ruger's but probably will when I get around to it...Their webpage is under construction but he's active on Facebook.

CAS Cylinder smith .com Glen Castro has been a contributor forever. I really don't want to ship off the cylinder and wait months to get it back and am having trouble finding someone to do it. The catch 22 is the better the gunsmith the longer the waiting period.

but some of the early .45's suffered from over-sized throats. My convertible has .456" +/- throats but it does fairly well with .454 (or larger) bullets. Hopefully, yours will benefit from reaming/uniforming.

Tom, you might ought to number those chambers and do some shooting off a bench to determine WHICH chambers shoot away from the group before you crank up the throat reamer. Could be the tight ones or it could be the loose ones that are causing the problem.
