Never thought of Tamarack for lumber...

Is an interesting wood and several of the ones that came down are fairly large and straight as an arrow. It is a deciduous tree with leaves like pine needles that grows in wet areas. It is considered more closely related to evergreens than to other deciduous trees, but is a hardwood that burns great. One of the the ones that came down has a real nice burl that hopefully can be salvaged, it is currently under the big white pine though. We have a farm park nearby with a steam powered sawmill that I may talk to about turning some of this into boards. Some people call Tamarack, Larch and the scientific name is Larix laricina.
