I "THINK" that cylinder notches can be recut and an an oversized bolt fitted. I have a well-used K-38 that I believe has had that done, and it locks up very nicely. You might give the S&W repair center a call and ask them - I don't know if they will do it, but someone there should know if it can be done.

Hamilton Bowen would certainly know, if anyone does.

The notches can be peened, but I doubt that that would be much more than a temporary fix.
