OOOOFFFF - Colt 1862 Pocket Police, 36 cal

by matt/pa @, Saturday, May 23, 2015, 20:02 (3412 days ago)

During my local riding around today, I came across this little guy. Colt 1862 Pocket Police, 36 caliber. Gun is all matching serial numbers, down to the barrel wedge. It is all patina and the right grip panel as 11 distinct notches in it! Boy, it it could only talk.

Bore isn't too bad, but nipples and chambers show some surface rust, and the usual pitting from blackpowder. Brass back and front strap is well patinaed, but gun is all original. Serial number is 3474 which, according to a quick on-line search, puts it as being manufactured in 1861.

What is amazing to me is that this little sucker still cycles and functions exactly the way it did when, according to its serial number, is was manufactured, back in 1861. That is 154 years ago!!

I am not much of a blackpowder gun guy so this will probably move on down the road, once I figure out what it's worth.

Thought you like-minded fellows would enjoy seeing it. The pictures aren't the best, as I took them in fading day light, but you get the idea! :-)

Enjoy!

Matt/PA

That is nice. I think the originals have a better "feel"

than the repros. The materials might not be as "good" but the guns have something, subtle differences in dimensions or something that make them different.

Great find...and I think some real collector interest. Just goes to show, they are still out there

Jackson Armory has one on their website.

Doesn't look in quite as good shape as yours to me, based on the photos.
