Smith 60-15 3"

by Slow Hand ⌂ @, Indiana, Wednesday, April 08, 2015, 13:22 (3457 days ago)

Saw one of these for sale locally on FB. Never had a 3" j frame before. Seems like a good one to have on hand. I generally dislike the 'safeties' in the newer Smiths, but maybe that's just my grumpy nature...

What's the going rate come one of these little guys in decent shape? It's. Out an hour away, but if it's a good deal, I might make the trip.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Smith 60-15 3"

Have had one for 'years' [CRS] ..SS, 3" bbl, adjust sights, wide trigger and hammer. When I have 'taught'assorted folks to shoot, it is the first centerfire they get to shoot [the first pistol is a 4" SS Kit gun} IT is about everybody's favorite shooting gun, too.

I carry it a lot for casual field and wood wandering...no griz here, and urban sidewalk is far away. There is a set of 'bag' goodyears on it, and while not classy, it fits about everyone's hands [finger grooves filed down to just swells] If there is someone with a big mitt, there are other suitable sized choice, but otherwise, seem popular.

Drop me an e, if you want to phone it....Got to go to spring Vet's appt...for the dogs, nnot me.

I always thought that would be a great meat gathering pistol while camping. Very handy and convenient. I broke down and turned mothers picture to the wall and bought a few newer Smiths with a lock. I don't use the locks but the actions still perform well. I would not let the comie lock stop me from buying a great gun, J.Michael

[image]grips on though. with .357s it is a hard recoiling little pistol. I often carry this as a back up to bigger guns, But would feel comfortable with it, alone.400 to 450 is what i would expect to pay.

SR Rob, if you don't mind, what are those wood grips on your M60? They would look great on my older M60 in 38 Special.

Those are from the far east. they actaully reside on a m640

that a friend gifted me years ago. The day I took that group photo, I tried them out on the 3" and that little J with magnums is not fun to shoot except with rubbers on it.
I have seen similar on ebay in the past. Craig Spegal makes similar stocks that I have tried boot grips on my 442 airweight and they are great!.

I have one of the older Model 60s in 3" and it's probably my favorite woods gun. Mine is a .38, not a .357, but for what I want it for, the difference is meaningless. They are surprisingly accurate and fun to shoot and a whole lot lighter and easier to carry than a 4" K or L-frame or the Ruger Security Six 4". It's one I plan to keep until they carry me out.

3" Model 36 Chief Special

3" J frames are not that rare. Here is a 3" Chief Special made in 1957 that hangs out at my house. [image]

Charles, I have that same model that I rescued from a hock shop a few years back. The "square butt" 3" J frame with a Tyler grip adapter is one of the best-feeling and best balanced handguns around IMHO. Wouldn't take anything for mine.
