S&W forum shenanigans...

by matt/pa @, Sunday, December 21, 2014, 09:35 (3566 days ago)

Is it me or has the S&W Forum Classifieds turned into an over-regulated disaster? There is a wealth of information in the collectors sections there, and some good stuff being bought and sold in their classifieds. It used to be a fun place to stop by spend some time at. But lately?

I posted a couple of guns for sale there yesterday, among a few other places. I sold one of them, elsewhere, so I marked it Sold Pending Funds. Now I am getting the Inquisition from one of their moderators insisting that I explain to him who bought it and where. I told him that it was sold to someone that is not a forum member but he is now insisting I explain to him who and where. I again repeated that it was not a forum member and to respect my privacy and the buyer's privacy but he is still insisting I tell him who and where, which I will not, under any circumstance, do.

What the heck is going on over there?

I quit going there years ago. Too many rules for me.

I have just been told I can't post any more classified ads

by matt/pa @, Sunday, December 21, 2014, 09:41 (3566 days ago) @ Jared

[QUOTE=s&wchad]Matt,
We take take this new policy seriously. I pulled your ad. DO NOT place another classifieds ad until this is resolved.
Sincerely,
chad

[QUOTE=bigbore45colt]It was not sold to a forum member. Beyond that, I ask that your respect my privacy and the buyer's privacy.

If there is a S&W Forum rule that requires members to post where they sell items, I must have missed it. Please let me know if I missed it.

Thank you.

Matt

[QUOTE=s&wchad]Please explain...

You have it marked "SPF", so it doesn't seem to have sold locally. If it sold elsewhere, tell me where.

[QUOTE=bigbore45colt]It was not bought by a forum member.

[QUOTE=s&wchad]You marked your Model 60, "SPF". Who bought it?

This is from the classifieds rules:

We now REQUIRE that an “I’ll Take It” be posted by the buyer in the ad.
The seller must require that “I’ll Take It” be posted in the ad.

Is there a "Don't list it anywhere else" rule?

by cas, Sunday, December 21, 2014, 13:16 (3565 days ago) @ Rob Leahy

A number of forums say that, if it's for sale elsewhere, don't post it here.

To me it seems more like simple confusion. Because you marked it SPF he assumes it sold on board and could have sold elsewhere because you used SPF. (which is a silly assumption to make, but it seems to be the case)

They used to have a rule like that. But it's been years since I posted anything for sale there.

I had a run-in with the same guy

by cubrock, Sunday, December 21, 2014, 15:09 (3565 days ago) @ matt/pa

Posted a few sets of grips on the forum. He PMed me and told me I was using the classifieds too often to not have some level of site sponsorship. I had posted maybe 6 ads in the previous 18 months and sold maybe one or two of those items. For $60 a year (the lowest contribution level) I figured it wasn't worth it to get lowball offers and sell a couple $75 pairs of grips, so I just don't go back. It is not the forum it used to be. No idea who that guy is, but he can have his petty fiefdom without me.

Then again, some people are internet forum moderators for the "power" they think it gives them.

S&W forum shenanigans...

by Kings6, Dallas, OR, Sunday, December 21, 2014, 17:08 (3565 days ago) @ matt/pa

A guy posted a nice model 27 conversion to 45 Colt the other day and it was snapped right up. Someone mentioned that the rest of us were jealousy and I posted that it was a smoking deal and we both got PMs and reprimanded for commenting. Yep, I am a real rule bender and rabble-rouser so I guess I need to stay on the more member friendly forums such as this and the Ruger Forum.

S&W forum shenanigans...UPDATE

by matt/pa @, Sunday, December 21, 2014, 17:27 (3565 days ago) @ matt/pa

There was no rule against posting on multiple forums. They have, since this morning, updated their rules to state that if you sell something on another forum, you have to state "sold somewhere else" or something like that.

The moderator did get back to me and let me know of this and that I could go ahead and repost my ad if I wanted.

I seem to remember having an ad disappear over there years ago, and never bothered to find out why.

The whole S&W board has been

by anachronism, Thursday, December 25, 2014, 10:25 (3562 days ago) @ matt/pa

The whole S&W board has been driving me nuts for the past couple of years, and I rarely go there anymore. Now that you mention it, I've seen a recent upsurge in badge-heavy moderators on some of the boards lately. To be fair, there are still a number of decent moderators out there, simply trying to help out a bit. But some of them....
